Fabulosity Friday- A Woman, a Hair Dryer and God

So you think that you can't find time in your day to meet with God? That's a lie sister! And I am gonna tell you why. If you are a woman and have a hair dryer, and you know and love God, you just gained a good five to ten minutes to spend with Him every day.

Some of the most sacred, most precious times in my day are when I get to dry my hair. I know, it's silly and some may say it's not reverent, but it's true. Let the naysayers say "nay" but a woman trying to find more time with God will never be turned away by her heavenly Father. As a wife and mother trying to get ready for the day, which can be stressful, I wanted a little more quiet time in my day. And I found that when I dried my hair, I was praying, reading, memorizing scripture, etc. As I began to blowout each strand of hair, I noticed I was hearing God speak to me. The LORD was speaking to me as I read my Bible and prayed in the midst of the hum from the dryer. So this hair time became sacred time. This mundane time became a magnificent time. No one can talk above the noise. Just hearing the hum of the dryer scatters everyone to leave the room. No one is gonna interrupt momma trying to fix her hair unless it's an absolute emergency!!! It's really great! And you know what? Sometimes even if you are done drying your hair, you can keep on blowing the dryer just to finish up your special time!

This hair time is when I bow before my heavenly Father (sometimes literally drying my hair!) and ask Him to speak to me.(Let me say this also can benefit your hair as well, bending over brings volume to you hair!)  So not only does my bowing before Him bring me a blessing of hearing Him, it also blesses my efforts to attain beautiful hair!  What could be better than that???

So what does this hair drying time look like?
I draw near to God first (James 4:8). I confess my sin and ask Him to search my heart (Psalm 139:23). Then, I read a devotional or a verse as I am working on a section of my hair. Make sure you have something to hold up your Bible or book like a picture frame stand or something similar!

I have found clarity for my confusion, peace for the storms raging inside me, hope when life was uncertain, strength to carry on and continue, direction for my next step and even times, conviction about things that no one would know except me and God, confidence for my insecurities. It's sacred, sister! It really is!!

So dear friend, take another look at your hair dryer differently today. Maybe purchase a new dryer to get you excited about getting the most out of your time with the LORD. Don't look at your hair dryer as a time taker, but as a time giver! Embrace the handle of your hair dryer with confidence knowing you are entering into a sacred time of conversation with The LORD of the Universe and listen to Him speak to you through the written Word of the Bible. He will do it! I can testify!!!!

Love you all and pray you have a happy Friday!!!

Fabulosity Friday- The Listening Part of 2012

So it's March 16th and three months away from the beginning of the new year. Are you changing? Are you growing in your relationship with God? Or are you the same. Stagnant.

I have posted about the "prepare" part of the two words God gave me this year. But I want to speak about the "listen" part today in this post.

I truly believe that God is speaking to us all the time. The older I get, the more I see the ways that He is speaking to me. And unfortunately, many of the ways that He is speaking to me, I shrug off as unimportant and meaningless. Just because it's not what I was looking for doesn't mean He isn't speaking to me.

What am I talking about?

I will explain in this post.

If you haven't read the other "Fabulosity Friday" posts I will get you up to date. I don't believe in resolutions. But I do believe that in each year we are to examine our hearts, our lives and seek the LORD through the reading of His Word and through prayer about what He has for us in terms of growth and change. The two words He gave me this year were:

So many times we want God to listen to us but we don't want to listen to Him. Then, when we want to hear from Him, we want Him to tell us what we want to hear. God speaks through His Word, other believers, and through our circumstances. But how many times do we pass up what He is trying to tell us?

This week, I desperately needed to hear from my LORD. I was talking to Him. ALOT! But the way He spoke to me was not the way I thought it would be.

The other morning when I was driving home from carpool, a black crow flew right in front of me with food in it's mouth.
This is the best picture I could find since I wasn't able to take a picture of it while I was driving!!

God clearly reminded me about Matthew 6:31-34 which says:
"So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
Immediately I began to recall the faithfulness of the LORD in my life and knew He was telling me to continue to seek HIM at all times, especially at this time in my life. I was comforted because I remembered He was going to provide for all my needs- emotionally, physically and spiritually. I remembered that if He would take care of the birds, He would also take care of me.

Listening to the LORD is seeking to hear from Him continually. It's looking around you and not missing things and thinking they are by chance but are put there by God.

Fabulosity Friday- Getting a Handle On Your Junk Drawer!!

Pen, sharpies, stamps, odds and ends that no one knows what to do with!!
The junk drawer of your home doesn't have to be a disaster!
It can be beautiful and functional!
I pray today's Fabulosity post inspires you to tackle the messy drawer in your home that you don't want anyone to see.
These are the words that God has placed on my heart for 2012. Prepare my home, prepare my life so I can make better use of the time He has given me. Listen is the other word that I will be posting about later.

Back to the drawer.

I had this drawer and it was a catch all.
It would catch all the junk I would throw into it!!!
Take a look!

I knew that I had to tackle it.
 Here is the process.
Wipe down the inside drawer so contact paper will adhere.

I couldn't find a shelving paper I liked so I made it myself using craft paper and clear contact paper.
I bought these containers from Target.
This is the catch all junk, it is orderly and can be found.

The other junk drawer is like a mail center for our home. See below.
I had been looking for a sharpie all last fall. Look how many I found!!!! 12!!!

Whatever word God places on your heart for 2012, the question is, "Are you seeing it through as the months go by? Are you seeking to bring all the things that keep you from moving forward in your life to the LORD? You can think it, pray it but if you don't act on it, it's just a wish, a good thought.

These places have been painful for me to act on, but it daily having a BIG impact on daily life inside our home. Have a Fabulosity Friday JT friend!!! I pray this post has inspired you!!!

Fabulosity Friday-Making Your Closet a Place that you Love!!!!

It's Friday again and I've been posting here on Joy Treasure how I have been preparing my home and preparing my life in 2012. In previous posts I have shared with you the two words that God has placed on my heart for 2012. They are:
I am continuing my posts on the word 'prepare' and showing you what it looks like in my life. This is a year long process and I want you to see that small changes to your life can be made in simple small steps each day. For me, I am tackling the unseen places in my home that cause me so much frustration when I am trying to get out the door in a hurry. My closet has been a point of contention. Slowly, but surely it is becoming a place that I love.

I took most of my jewelry out of a drawer and placed them in my closet where I get ready. I looked at unused space, measured and went searching for things that could help hold my jewelry in a place where I can see it.

I found these adorable door knob hangers in the girls section of Hobby Lobby. They are $9 each and easily can be hung on a wall. They also were half off so I got them for a steal! I could have made them, but why? I am trying to save time here and get on to other things! They were perfect for my bracelets!!! No more fighting in a drawer with my bracelets. I have them all right here when I need them. And I know what I have so I won't buy something similar. STRESS FREE!!!!!
So here is what they look like. I had a few more bracelets so I ordered two more door knob holders from Hobby Lobby and will place them below. My future plans are to repaint the closet this spring to give the closet a fresh look, but for now it works for me. Problem solved!

My necklaces and scarves were two other things that were all a mess. So I solved that as well. This is behind the door of my closet. Unused space now usable!

Last but not least, I had this space above my hanging clothes that was a blank wall. It was perfect for a special picture that I wanted to hang in our closet. This picture was taken on a special trip to Hawaii and my husband and I love it. When we walk in the closet, it is the first thing your eye sees when you walk into the closet.

As you can see this closet would not be in the glamour shots of the Better Homes and Gardens. The wall needs to be repainted, I still have some containers to buy for the shelves. But the small improvements made have affected my life on a daily basis. I simply took what I had and made it a more enjoyable place to walk into. You spend 365 days a year in your closet and why not make it a place that you can enjoy being in or looking into?

If you don't like your closet and it has caused you much frustration, do something about it.
Look at it.
Think about it.
Plan for it and then tackle it.
You will be SOOOOO glad you did!

Have a fabulosity Friday my JT friends!!!!

Fabulosity Friday

365 hours.......
That is the time you most likely spend in a year hovered over your bathroom drawers cleaning your face or putting on makeup. Out of those 365 hours, how many of them are filled with frustration because you can't find something? Life is too short to be frustrated over the little things. Make the time to clean them out and make them fabulous!

As 2012 continues to roll along, the word "prepare" is one of the words God has placed on my heart to live out. Being prepared means to be a better steward of the time God has given me in each day. For me, that has been to organize the unseen places in my home. These are the places that company would never see if they visited my home.(That's because I wouldn't let them see it!!!!) But just because no one sees these unseen places doesn't mean that it's OK for me to not give attention to this part of my life.

The HUNT for CUTE SHELF PAPER
I have to come to find that cute shelf paper is not something most stores have on their shelves. If I have to spend 365 hours of my life a year hovered over something then I want it to look nice and be a color and design that I like.
I couldn't find any shelf liner that I liked so I made my own.
I went to Michaels and bought scrapbook paper that I loved. I put it together by cutting it to fit my drawer and placed clear contact paper over the scrapbook paper to make it easy to wipe with a wet cloth to keep it clean.

Now, this took a bit more time than I wanted to take, but the result....fabulous!!!!

See how everything kind of had a place before....but it was not pretty.
No more hovering over this mess for 365 hours a year!!!!

Pretty! Love it!  Soooooo.... much better!

Purchasing an acrylic holder helps you see more of the paper you want to see.

I love putting my makeup on now. It's much more of an enjoyable experience!

Prepare your life so you can spend more time giving attention to the things that really matter in life.
Don't let your unseen places frustrate you anymore.

Fabulosity Friday

Happy Friday JT Friends!
As I told you in earlier posts, I am sharing real examples from my own life on the blog about the the two words God placed on my heart for 2012 to live out.
They are "prepare" and "listen."

I posted last week about being a good steward of the time God has given us in each day, so therefore organization becomes more about making the most of the time God has given us each day, not about having it altogether in the eyes of someone else.

I wanted to share my most recent way of saving time in my home. It is my jewelry holder.

My lack of getting a handle on my jewelry was stealing time away from my day. It wasn't taking hours, it was taking second which turned into many minutes.

For me, it has been the little stuff that I needed to pay attention to in my home that has not been easy to find. These little things have had a place, but the place has not been as efficient as it could be. For instance, my earrings. They were in a jewelry holder in a drawer but they were on top of each other inside the drawer. Every time I would be looking for a pair of earrings, they were all mixed up and I couldn't find the other pair.
ARRRGGG!!!!
My jewelry had a designated place but the space wasn't an efficient. Does anyone know what I am talking about!!!!

When organizing your home, get out of the mindset that you don't have the time. That's the biggest lie and deterrent when it comes to organizing. Believe me, you do. Find it. Take one day at a time or one week at a time. Write it down on your calendar and make plans to do it. You will be SOOOOO glad you did.

I pray today's fabulosity post will inspire you to find ways to prepare your own life.

And for my bracelets

If you want to find out more about how to make a jewelry holder go to one of my favorite websites centsationalgirl.com and find out how to make one. It is super easy, super fun and the result oozes fabulosity!
